Weather-Related Service Delays

During times of severe weather, you may experience some service delays and disruptions. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our team members, as well as providing the highest level of service to our customers. SSC is committed to providing service to the best of our ability in areas that can be safely accessed. If we cannot collect material on your regular service day, please leave your container(s) out at the curb (or alley). We will collect material as soon as possible. This may be the next business day or the next time we are scheduled to service your area. Please brush snow off containers. Tips to prevent windblown litter are here.

If we do not service your account until your next regularly scheduled service day, we will take extra material at no extra charge (not to exceed an amount that would be reasonably generated as a result of missed pick up). Use bags for extra material.

For the latest info, click here or connect with us on Facebook and Twitter. Please contact us for specific account questions. Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we work to safely collect all materials during these times.

Windy Weather Collection Tips

If possible, avoid putting bins out on really windy days. If they are less than half-full, consider waiting for next pick-up. We collect extra materials in bin or box no larger than SSC bins.

If set out for collection, consider these suggestions:

Stacking bins - set singly on the ground, back to front, facing away from the wind. Do NOT stack in windy weather.

Tub-style bins - nest inside each other to secure materials from the wind.

  • Bottles, Cans & Plastic Containers Bin - Place heavier items on top (like glass bottles and jars) to prevent lighter plastics from blowing. If stacking/nesting, place this bin on the ground first.
  • Newspaper Bin - Place newspapers in a paper sack, lay ON ITS SIDE in bin. If stacking/nesting, place this bin in the middle.
  • Scrap Paper Bin - Place mixed paper in a paper bag and lay bag ON ITS SIDE in the bin so wind can’t get it. If stacking/nesting, place this bin on top. Shredded paper MUST be in a paper bag taped shut at all times!
  • Cardboard - Flatten boxes, place on ground with a bin on top. (Flatten means cut the tape/glue and flatten, NOT step on and tear the box.)

Help us prevent wind-blown litter and keep your neighborhood clean! Check out these tips for securing bins and Toters® on windy days.

Recycling Collection Tips

Recycling Toters® and Dumpsters

  • Please do not use bungee cords to secure lids (the recoiling hooks are a hazard to drivers/collectors). Note: Close lids securely on larger containers and dumpsters.
  • Place Toter® with at least six (6) feet of clear space around all sides. Do not place Toter® near other containers, trees/shrubs, utility poles, mailboxes, vehicles, overhead lines, b-ball hoops, etc.
  • If you live in a neighborhood serviced by our automated (sidearm) collection truck:
    • Place Toter® at curb with handle toward the house so lid recloses after pick-up.
    • Place Toter® with at least six (6) feet of clear space around all sides. Do not place Toter® near other containers, trees/shrubs, utility poles, mailboxes, vehicles, etc.
    • Cardboard - Flatten boxes and put between bins or on ground with a bin on top.

Please set out containers the night before your regular collection day.

Thank you for helping keep our community clean!

Holiday Collection Info

SSC crews work all holidays that fall on weekdays.

Customers with a collection day that falls on a holiday should set out materials the night before to ensure pick-up. Collection on holidays is typically a little earlier than usual due to lighter traffic on area roads.

SSC offices are closed most major holidays. Visit our News page for current holiday collection schedules.
