Weather-Related Service Delays

During times of severe weather, road conditions may delay service(s) for some of our customers. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to safely collect all materials during these times. The information below will be helpful if we cannot collect your recyclables or garbage on your regular pick-up day.

If we cannot collect your garbage and recyclables on your regular collection day, please leave your containers out and we will attempt to collect the next business day (road conditions permitting).

If we cannot collect on the next business day, then your recyclables, garbage and FoodPlus! (if you subscribe to this service), plus any material missed, will be collected on the next regularly scheduled pick-up day for your area. This applies to every-other-week and monthly customers. If garbage and recyclables are collected on the next pick-up, no credit will be issued.

If your containers are buried or covered in snow, it would help our crews a great deal if you could dig out or uncover them and bring them curbside or alleyside for pick-up. Thank you!

Please contact us for specific account questions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Windy Weather Collection Tips

Help us prevent wind-blown litter and keep your neighborhood clean! Check out these tips for securing bins and Toters® on windy days.

Recycling Collection Tips

Recycling Bins

  • If possible, avoid putting bins out on really windy days. If they are less than half-full, consider waiting for next pick-up.

If set out for collection, consider these suggestions:

  • Bottles, Cans & Plastic Containers Bin - Place heavier items on top (like glass bottles and jars) to prevent lighter plastics from blowing. If stacking, place on ground first.
  • Newspaper Bin - Place newspapers flat in bin. If stacking, place this bin in middle.
  • Scrap Paper Bin - Place mixed paper in a paper bag and lay bag sideways in bin so wind can’t get it. If stacking, place this bin on top.
  • Cardboard - Flatten boxes and put between bins or on ground with a bin on top.

Recycling Toters® and Dumpsters

  • Please do not use bungee cords to secure lids (the recoiling hooks are a hazard to drivers/collectors). Note: Close lids securely on larger containers and dumpsters.
  • If you live in a neighborhood serviced by our automated (sidearm) collection truck:
    • Place Toter® at curb with handle toward the house so lid recloses after pick-up.
    • Place Toter® with at least six (6) feet of clear space around all sides. Do not place Toter® near other containers, trees/hedges, phone poles, mailboxes or parked cars.

Food Plus! Collection Tips

  • Please do not use bungee cords to secure lids (the recoiling hooks are a hazard to drivers/collectors). Note: Close lids securely on larger containers and dumpsters.

Garbage Collection Tips

  • Please do not use bungee cords to secure lids (the recoiling hooks are a hazard to drivers/collectors). Note: Close lids securely on larger containers and dumpsters.
  • Please bag ALL GARBAGE, especially Styrofoam peanuts/packaging and shredded paper-before placing in Toter®.

    • Place Toter® with at least six (6) feet of clear space around all sides. Do not place Toter® near other containers, trees/hedges, phone poles, mailboxes or parked cars.

Please mark your address on bins and Toter®(s). This will help you locate your containers should they blow away. For questions about lost, stolen or damaged containers, please contact us.

Thank you for helping keep our community clean!

Holiday Collection Info

SSC crews work all holidays that fall on weekdays. Customers with a collection day that falls on a holiday should set out materials the night before to ensure pick-up. Collection on holidays is typically a little earlier than usual due to lighter traffic on area roads.

SSC offices are closed most major holidays.
