Put on your walking shoes – at this event you will tour the following sites in beautiful Whatcom County and talk firsthand to the businesspeople and local leaders who are working Toward Zero Waste:

Louws Truss – How did they turn former waste products into $30,000 in new profits annually, while diverting 90% of their waste stream?

Samson Rope – How did they save $20,000 and cut their waste stream by 50% in the first two months?

Fairhaven Middle School – How did they drop from 20 yards of garbage per week to less than 6 yards? Tour Washington’s first public “Toward Zero Waste” school and see their Food to Flowers! school composting in action. Talk with students and the head custodian who continue to drive down the waste stream.

Bellingham City Hall – No “waste in government” here – tour with the Green Team and learn about their initiatives for a leaner, healthier “waste line”!

Network with fellow recycling professionals interested in real solutions to take recycling programs in Washington State to the next level.  Our luxury tour bus will allow you to relax and maximize your interaction, instead of worrying about driving from site to site.

Gourmet lunch on the Bellingham waterfront – All local, organic foods from Whatcom farmers prepared by Ciao Thyme, Whatcom County’s most celebrated caterer. Several farmers will speak to the group about the link between sustainable agriculture and sustainable communities.

Vegetarian and gluten-free options available upon request!

Why not stay over in Bellingham after the event - Wine tours, Farmer’s Market, Film Festival!

The Chrysalis Inn & Spa is on the water in Fairhaven, offering a 35% discount for WRED attendees –

$149/night dbl. occupancy King or 2 Queen, including breakfast!
