SSC Supports ToWard Zero Waste Campaign;

Offers free recycling at Bellingham Farmers market April 19 event

BELLINGHAM, WA. – Sanitary Service Company (SSC), Whatcom County’s largest recycling and garbage collection company, is pleased to partner with Sustainable Connections in their newest community campaign - Toward Zero Waste - which aims to reduce waste and increase recycling rates in our community.

In addition to being a campaign sponsor, SSC is also a Toward Zero Waste Pioneer – a recognition for businesses who currently reduce, reuse or recycle more than 80% of their waste. Please join us in moving our community Toward Zero Waste.

10AM - 3PM

Bellingham Farmers Market - Depot Market Square

SSC will offer free recycling, complimentary reusable bags and plenty of tips and hints during the event as we help our community move toward zero waste. We look forward to seeing you there!


Free - All day!

  • Plant Pots & Trays - please brush out excess dirt
  • Clamshell Containers (often used for deli and bakery items)
  • Blister Pack Packaging

(ex. outer plastic packaging from printer cartridges, toys, toiletries, etc.)

No Styrofoam or other plastics please!


Free - 12:30 – 3PM

  • Check out our new mobile shred truck
  • Secure shredding and recycled!

Limit: Two paper grocery bags per household

Toward Zero Waste is based largely on last year’s highly successful Green Power Community Challenge that saw Bellingham become the #1 EPA-certified Green Power Community in the country.
