BELLINGHAM, WA - (December 6, 2007) The Washington Refuse & Recycling Association (WRRA) recognized Sanitary Service Company’s sustainability efforts with their 2007 Sustainability Award. The award was presented at the association’s 60th Annual Holiday Meeting, held December 1st in Seattle.
“It is an honor to be recognized for our sustainable business practices,” said SSC President Paul Razore. “We appreciate the support we have received for these programs and services from our employees, customers, local government officials and business partners.”
SSC was recognized for its commitment to sustainable business practices and customer services including the company’s use of biodiesel in its fleet of garbage and recycling trucks and use of 100% Green Power. SSC is also a 5 star EnviroStars business, a regional program that promotes pollution prevention.
SSC outreach programs include the award-winning FoodPlus! Recycling and Food to Flowers! programs that collect compostables from homes, businesses and schools. New customer services launched this year include an electronics recycling program, data shredding service and expanded curbside recycling for plastic containers.
“These programs help reduce disposal costs and pollution in our community, create new jobs and reuse local materials,” said Rodd Pemble, SSC Recycling Manager. “We look forward to building on this achievement as we continue to help move the communities we serve toward a more sustainable future.”
