SSC EXPANDS FOODPLUS! RECYCLING SERVICE AREA
BELLINGHAM, WA. – Sanitary Service Company (SSC) recently expanded the service area of its popular FoodPlus! Recycling program. In addition to all SSC customers in the cities of Bellingham and Ferndale, and customers in Birch Bay and Semiahmoo, FoodPlus! Recycling is now available to a majority of SSC customers in the unincorporated areas of Whatcom County.
“We are pleased with the program’s success and glad we can expand our service area to make the program available to more of our customers,” said SSC President Paul Razore. “This current expansion now makes service available to our customers along North Shore Drive, in Sudden Valley and around Lake Samish,” Razore said.
New service area boundaries – beginning in the north county include: Semiahmoo to I-5 then south to Birch Bay-Lynden Road, east to Hannegan Road and south to Hemmi Road, east to Fazon Road and south to Cedarville Road, east to Mt. Baker Highway, then south to the Whatcom-Skagit County line and out to Bellingham Bay, then north to Cagey Road on Lummi Peninsula (including Sandy Point) and finishing back at Semiahmoo.
FoodPlus! Recycling is SSC’s all-in-one Toter recycling service for yardwastes, food-soiled papers and food scraps. SSC Recycling Manager Rodd Pemble said over 4,000 customers have signed up for the recycling service since it started two years ago. “Our FoodPlus! and Food to Flowers! customers are doing a great job and really committed to helping this program succeed.” Pemble said over 10 million pounds of material has been composted since the program began. All materials collected in the program are composted and sold locally.
SSC was named Recycler of the Year in 2006 by the Washington State Recycling Association for FoodPlus! Recycling and its school-based companion Food to Flowers!. For questions or more information call (360) 734-3490 or visit www.ssc-inc.com.
