SSC Donates Services to Help Rehab Old Dock
Bellingham, WA – Local rowers and owners of hand-powered watercraft now have an easier and drier way to get into their boats thanks to a team effort from SSC, Whatcom Rowing Association and the City of Bellingham.
Volunteers from Whatcom Rowing Association began work last Thursday dismantling an old dock at WWU’s Lakewood facility on Lake Whatcom. SSC donated the drop box, hauling and disposal and, by Friday, over 5.5 tons (11,000 lbs.) of water-logged Styrofoam blocks and lumber had been hauled away as part of the rehab project. The dock was refurbished and then floated down the lake from WWU’s Lakewood facility to Bloedel-Donovan Park. Plans called for anchoring it in place this week with the help of a local diver.
